All NIU CPA Review courses may be taken via correspondence. In other words, candidates register for the course and pay an additional fee to receive audio recordings and handout materials via the mail. This allows today's busy candidates to complete the reviews at a time that fits their schedule. NOTE: All “Live” AUDIT & FAR courses are also available for 3 semester hours of credit. Candidates must register for the AUDIT& FAR review course. During the first class session, Debra Hopkins, director of the NIU CPA Review course will help you register for the credit portion. There is an additional fee of approximately $1,100 (per 3 credit hours) for in-state students and $1,800 (per 3 credit hours) for out-of-state students. The suggested testing windows are just that, suggestions. We suggest that you take at least two weeks after the end of your review class to review all the material covered in the course. Students can spend more or less time, as they see fit, on this review period. Just remember, Debra says you should go over all the hand-outs and rework all the problems at least twice before taking the exam.
The AICPA examinations team began testing new risk-based auditing standards in the July/August 2007 testing window. Be sure your study materials are up-to-date.
HINT: The change involved new financial statement assertions, a new internal control model, risk analysis and several changes in performing audit procedures. The NIU CPA Review uses class time to teach you how to navigate the research standards.

HINT: Complete the BEC section before the AICPA adds simulations and written communications.
Former candidates report that the BEC is an excellent section to take via correspondence. With only 8 sessions, candidates can usually complete their review and take the exam within a 3-week period.

The AICPA examinations team tests new Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) pronouncements within 6 months of issuance. For example, FASB No. 153 dealing with similar exchanges, FASB No. 123R expensing of stock options, and FASB No. 154 on changes in accounting principles are now tested. Be sure you know the current accounting rules. The new consolidation rules (SFAS 141R) will be tested beginning the July/August 2009 testing window.
